How do you play it?
After climbing the Himalayas in Trek 12 it is now time to explore the Amazon. For those who don't know draw 12 yet, it's a roll & write game. Where you roll 2 dice and each player chooses how to use the dice. For example, the highest or lowest number, addition, subtraction or multiplication. This is only possible a certain number of times, so choose wisely.
Then you put the number on a self-chosen spot on the score sheet, every number after that is adjacent. This with a maximum of 12 or 6 otherwise you have an error.
The number becomes part of a track and/or zone. Tracks are consecutive numbers, zones are groups of the same numbers.
At amazonia you draw a spider if you write a number higher than 12, this causes minus points at the end of the round. Do you want to cross the river with piranhas? Then you will write a number in the circle with fish without error. If it is due to a mistake, you color the fish, this causes minus points and you cross of a circle of the dangerzone.
By filling in certain numbers, you will observe animals and you will earn extra points.
The game ends when all players have crossed the table on the right.
The player with the most points wins.
As you progress in the game you can unlock some game material. There are closed envelopes, score sheets, drafts and a suitcase, I won't tell you what's in here ;)
My opinion
You don't need to have played Trek 12 to start Trek 12 Amazon, it's a standalone game. When I compare the two games, I like Amazonia a bit more because new game material is unlocked and that means more variety. Observing the animal cards gives more strategy. The theme is nicely processed from box to game material very well done. It's a simple game, clear and the replayability is good.
There are 50 sheets printed on one side. This should have been double sided. Other than that, I don't have any comments on this game.
